Opera Software (News - Alert), a Norwegian software company, has launched a new download manager, ‘Opera Mini 7.1’, for J2ME and BlackBerry (News - Alert). The revamped manager enables users to easily handle downloaded media such as documents, multimedia and other content.
The Opera Mini 7.1 browser allows a downloaded file to be paused when the connection disappears, and then resumed when you’re back on track. On the BlackBerry platform, the file can be accessed directly from the browser; while, on J2ME the user can choose to let the phone open the file directly in e.g. a media player or save it for later use.
Opera Mini works on more than 3,000 different phone models, in all price categories. Opera Mini can be downloaded from m.opera.com.
Recently, Opera Software reported that profit for the third quarter ended September 30, 2012 was USD 6.5 million, or USD 0.05 per diluted share, compared to USD 9.2 million, or USD 0.08 per diluted share, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2011.
Revenue for the quarter was USD 56.4 million, compared to USD 40.1 million for the third quarter ended September 30, 2011. Profit for the nine months ended September 30, 2012 was USD 14.2 million, or USD 0.117 per diluted share, compared to USD 18.4 million, or USD 0.152 per diluted share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2011. Revenue for the nine months ended September 30, 2012 was USD 155.3 million, compared to USD 116.3 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2011.
In addition, Opera is also planning on adding support to make these WebKit sites more usable on their Web browsers. The Web browser Opera has added support on its desktop browser and mobile browser to use –webkit prefix sites. The other Web browsers, Mozilla and Microsoft (News - Alert), may have to follow suit so that they do not lose users due to looking like an inferior browser when compared to Chrome and Safari. WebKit designed sites currently have over 40 percent of the market share on Web browser layouts.
