The Case for Fax Server Deployment: OpenText RightFax

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

While fax technology may seem like outdated technology, the reality is a number of businesses in a wide variety of industries still rely on this communication channel in everyday business. Evolution in this space has occurred, however, replacing the standalone machine with the fax server to manage fax communications on the converged data network line.

Satori Solutions is one company benefiting from the advancements in this space, deploying a variety of network fax servers to help companies eliminate the consumption of paper, increase efficiency through automation in processes, reduce document handling time and eliminate unnecessary manual labor.

Much of the success Satori Solutions has enjoyed is due to the OpenText Fax Server RightFax Edition. This fax server is considered by the reseller to be a milestone in the product offering, as well as the industry as a whole. While this released marked nearly 25 years since the launch of the original version, it is the first developed completely under the banner of OpenText.

Just years ago, RightFax was leveraging traditional TDM fax boards and G.711 pass through, the most common method for passing fax communications across VoIP networks. Today, the platform is compatible with T.38 Fax over IP (FoIP), the proven standard in Enterprise Fax over IP, as well as the most stable method for fax transmissions over the data line. T.38 transmissions are supported with interoperability with carriers such as BroadVox and Global Crossing (News - Alert).

Virtualization technologies are also readily available on this fax server, including Hyper-V and VMware. Features such as Live Migration and vMotion help to power these technologies as virtualization implementations rapidly spread throughout the global market. Healthcare and financial industries especially have adopted virtualization technologies, including the fax server, to optimize communications and computing, while minimizing energy and space consumption.

Powerful high-availability redundant architectures are supported with RightFax 10 deployments to meet the needs of the geographically dispersed enterprise seeking to distribute information to a global user community. The features and functionality in this fax server are designed to enable providers to scale solutions horizontally and provide the necessary redundancy to support ongoing communication reliance.

As communication technologies continue to evolve, the fax server is playing a critical role, allowing for the centralized network solution where demonstrable ROI is paramount. With its support of Multi Function Peripheral (MFP) integrations, RightFax is well positioned to enable the enterprise or small business to move away from reliance on obsolete internal hardware modules and optimize the power of the network.

RightFax sits well at the core of virtualization as network faxing with the fax server offers the necessary software-only solutions that leverage T.38 FoIP, as well as the client’s existing VoIP telecom infrastructure. FoIP solutions and virtualization work well in tandem, providing clients with the necessary tools to drive growth and control costs.
