In the information age, data is lifeblood. But as everyone who deals in data knows, we’ve got so much of it we barely know where most of it is stored. And, if you’re in the legal profession, lack of access to critical information can have far-reaching consequences; “I don’t know” is not an acceptable answer.
That’s why a new offering just rolled out by Sonian, a pioneer in cloud-powered email archiving, is sure to have an impact on the legal profession or any business that needs access to stored information.
The company’s new product, DiscoverStor, is, as they describe it, “a unified information management platform for on-premises and cloud-based data management, compliance and information discovery.” In short, if it’s stored somewhere, they’ll find it … and fast.
Sonian’s groundbreaking cloud reference architecture will enable legal, IT, audit and line-of-business users from myriad companies to search, analyze and manage the storage of millions of documents in hundreds of different formats.
“Users can now uncover actionable intelligence for more informed discovery procedures, early case assessment, regulatory compliance, data and storage management and audit policy actions,” the company said in a statement.
“Sonian has long been archiving email into the cloud, and making it available to our fast and accurate search functionality,” said Sonian Founder and CTO Greg Arnette. “Expanding this value to more content types seemed a natural progression. We saw an opportunity to serve SMBs and SMEs involved in frequent litigation with a robust "early case assessment" tool that serves to better inform enterprises that can't afford a seven figure eDiscovery platform like Autonomy (News - Alert), but need to reduce their discovery costs.”
According to the company, DiscoverStor provides a “single lens” into disparate data, and this unified information management platform will collect, index, store, search, and preserve communications and other “unstructured data assets,” no matter where they reside, providing unparalleled visibility into “dark data” across the enterprise. In plain English, that means that whatever you have, no matter where it’s stored, can now be found and accessed using DiscoverStor.
“DiscoverStor currently supports the extraction of text and metadata from over 500 unstructured content types,” Arnette told TMC (News - Alert). “With its extensive access to this data, the DiscoverStor platform allows you to create a limitless set of queries based on any Boolean combination of text and metadata. In addition, Sonian is currently developing methods for linguistic analysis in our R&D lab. Those efforts will be rolled into the DiscoverStor to enable near duplicate identification, concepts, content clustering, entity extraction, and assisted coding. Sonian is one of the only vendors that understand how to scale these technologies to truly take advantage of the elastic nature of cloud computing.”
Discovery response is the fastest growing cost component of litigation and compliance investigations. Sonian’s DiscoverStor was developed to help rein in those costs while providing superior search and recovery capabilities.
