As VoIP adoption is enjoying some healthy growth, still many firms are reticent about taking the leap. The same questions pop up: Is it secure? What will the audio quality be like? How expensive is it? What kind of investment will the firm have to make? Do we need an IT department to manage our phones? Well, let’s get some answers, and remove any doubt that VoIP is not your best alternative.
Many are under the belief that VoIP is complex and expensive. Years back, when VoIP was newly introduced it was most definitely complicated and expertise was needed to alleviate confusion. Today’s more tech savvy millennial generation grew up with this technology, and have great familiarity with VoIP. The implementation of VoIP is easy today and phone systems are even easier to use. Comparing VoIP with traditional telephony, it is far less expensive—with many providers offering a small monthly payment, inexpensive DIDs and pay only for what you use model.
VoIP is secure! Today’s digital lifestyle has billions of transactions taking place daily over Internet protocol. Added security tools are available to ensure your firm’s communications are absolutely safe, as developers are constantly innovating new ways to keep the “evil doers” away from your sensitive information.
Another major point of contention is the quality of communications. When VoIP was initially introduced to the enterprise the audio quality was shotty at best, whereas today’s Internet is far superior in terms of speed and reliability. Broadband and today’s rocket-fast internet speeds mean dropped calls are no longer an issue and audio quality is on par with landlines.
This was but a brief overview of what the opposition to VoIP brings to the table. When considering taking the plunge, make sure to do your due diligence and find the best fit. Tune out the naysayers, and embrace what today’s tech can offer.
