Ecova, a total energy and sustainability management company, announced recently that it will be providing the Roundy's Supermarkets grocery chain with its utility expense and data management platform.
The Ecova Platform will help officials at approximately 165 Roundy's locations in its home town of Milwaukee and beyond to monitor their utility usage including water, waste, electricity, and carbon emissions on a single platform that is available from anywhere. The announcement indicates that the installation of the Ecova Platform is already underway that that Roundy's is already benefiting from use of Ecova's Big Data Warehouse which will allow the grocery chain to monitor its performance and compare it with more than 700,000 other facilities. It is Kevin Christopherson, the energy program manager at Roundy's, that commented on his company's intention to improve its operational efficiency and lessen its impact on the environment through decreased carbon emissions.
“As Roundy’s continues to expand, visibility into energy spend and consumption via the Ecova Platform is critical for our operational efficiency and identifying where to focus capital improvements and the maintenance schedule,” Christopherson said. “Ecova’s utility expense and data management solution, as well as their ENERGY STAR (News - Alert) Benchmarking service, will help us better understand our energy consumption in order to improve efficiencies. The Carbon Management solution will assist us as we deliver on our commitment to improve our overall environmental performance.”
Ecova, which primarily works with enterprises in North America, has about 700 clients under its wing. Last year, TMC (News - Alert) noted, Ecova said it had saved its clients in 2013 more than $800 million in savings. Comments on the matter included praise for the return on investment that Ecova can provide.
Seth Nesbitt, the senior vice president of sales, marketing, and strategy at Ecova, commented in the company's latest announcement that sustainability management data is a necessary element of any business's long-term energy plan. The Ecova Platform can bring together multiple data points from the 165 Roundy's locations to give Roundy's decision makers the information they need to lower their costs and improve the efficiency of operations. With any luck, they should be able to add their total savings to the $800 million witnessed in 2013 as a result of using the Ecova software.
