Telecom equipment vendor Ericsson (News - Alert) has announced a new unified network management system designed to deliver high-performing networks that also adapt to changes both in the real and virtual world.
Ericsson Network Manager is offered as part of Ericsson's full OSS portfolio for multi-vendor management and is designed to address the network needs of tomorrow, the company said. It removes barriers between network domains and reduces operational complexity of networks.
Together with Ericsson Cloud Manager, Ericsson Network Manager also delivers a complete solution for managing information and technology in operators’ converging ICT infrastructure, the company said. The platform ensures efficiency through better automation and policy control.
Ericsson said the new solution will enable management of hybrid networks, ranging from multi-standard radio, small cell and integrated Wi-Fi in indoor environments, Time Division Multiplexing, evolved IP networks, virtual network infrastructures and dynamic networking with Software Defined Networks (SDN).
Experts view Ericsson Network Manager as a step up and the right approach toward providing an integrated, end-to-end network view, along with the flexibility and automation needed to deliver a compelling customer experience that can differentiate the operator.
Anil Rao, industry analyst with Analysys (News - Alert) Mason's Telecoms Software research team, said, "Ericsson Network Manager provides unified network management in a single platform, making for ease of transition as service providers look to consolidate their network operations.”
With this solution, Ericsson can now deliver a real-time OSS that supports differentiation of performance-critical services end to end, says Thomas Noren, vice president and head of Product Area Radio, Ericsson. It allows them to go from a reactive management to proactive and predictive programmability of the network.
All of Ericsson's existing products within network management have roadmaps supporting migration to the new Ericsson Network Manager, which is already in live trials with a major operator.
Ericsson plans to make the first commercial deliveries of the product near the end of 2014.
The company is showcasing Ericsson Network Manager along with demonstrations of its adaptive capabilities for managing the full range of network technologies at the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.
