ACS To Add 200 Call Center Jobs in Lewiston, Maine Facility

ACS (News - Alert) (Affiliated Computer Services), a call center outsourcing company owned by Xerox, has announced it will be expanding its call center operations in Lewiston, Maine, and boosting that operation’s call center personnel by about 200 jobs. ACS currently employs 417 people at its existing Lewiston operation.


“It’s great news,” said Chip Morrison, president of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce.

ACS’s existing call center supports clients primarily in the retail and health-care industries. The company has said that it “needs new employees quickly,” in a news release. The center handles calls for several major national corporations, “household names,” said Morrison, who recorded a segment on ACS for a “Lewiston-Auburn Business Showcase” television program a few months ago, reported local newspaper the Sun Journal.

“When somebody says, ‘Call this number,’ during a promotion for these corporations, it would ring in Lewiston,” noted Morrison.

When it comes to hiring for the 200 new jobs, the company will be looking to hire both call center agents and supervisors who will provide technical support and customer service, said Alex Charles, a spokesman for ACS’s parent company, Xerox.

“Due to an existing client’s needs and the easy-to-find, exemplary educated labor force in Lewiston, ACS has decided to expand in the city,” Charles wrote in an e-mail to the Sun Journal on Tuesday.

ACS has 150 call centers all over the world. Its employees handle more than one million customers each year. The Lewiston expansion is part of a nationwide plan to add 3,000 jobs in the next few months.
