Communications Provider VelaTel, ZTE to Build Wireless Broadband Infrastructure in Croatia and Montenegro

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

VelaTel Global Communications, a communications provider and ZTE (News - Alert), an international telecom solutions provider based in China have revealed their joint purchase order for 75 base transceiver stations (BTS) plus the core equipment, other infrastructure and software.

Under the terms of the agreement, VelaTel will deploy the infrastructure in the first phase of its new wireless network projects in Croatia and Montenegro. The total value of the order is approximately $4.757 million, including shipping charges and VAT.

In addition, the Chinese telecom equipment maker is configuring the equipment to the precise spectrum frequencies covered under the licenses of VelaTel's new subsidiaries in these two locations.

The equipment for the communications provider will be ready for shipment that is tentatively scheduled for end of December 2011 and will clear customs in Croatia and Montenegro and be available for installation by approximately March 2012.

VelaTel's COO, Mario Alvarez, is currently overseeing pre-engineering and meeting with ZTE's local branch office to finalize a services contract.

"Even though we will not officially close our acquisition of Novi-Net and Montenegro Connect until early January, we are working with our new partners to take the steps necessary to have sites ready for installation when the equipment arrives,” said Alvarez, in a statement.

“We appreciate ZTE's efforts to expedite this order and to identify where their local people can provide the services that will ensure a smooth deployment," Alvarez added.

VelaTel acquires spectrum assets through acquisition or joint venture relationships and provides capital, engineering, architectural and construction services for communications providers helping them build out wireless broadband telecommunications networks.

Through this partnership, communications provider and customers will benefit greatly as they now have access to enhanced service capabilities.
