Accelerating Web Services Using Colocation Services

By Laura Stotler, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Accelerated IP (XIP), a service-based Internet traffic accelerator, is now available across Internap (News - Alert) Network Services Corporation's global data center footprint. The XIP service complements Internap's Performance IP route-optimized network connectivity to improve the performance of enterprise Web services by up to four times, and to deliver a superior end-user experience through end-to-end network optimization.

Internap is a CLEC partner with Telehouse, a leading data center and carrier-neutral colocation provider.

XIP offers the ability to deliver mission-critical, latency-sensitive Internet content to users throughout the world and meets enterprises' increasing demand for dynamic content, applications and services delivery over the Internet. Hosting, streaming and IT services provider Jolokia Networks (News - Alert) has chosen Internap to accelerate the delivery of its cloud-based applications to its customers, who boast a wide network of international end users. The XIP service has reduced latency and improved application performance among Jolokia's hosting sites in Europe and North America, leading to a 40 percent webpage load time improvement.

Video and media data and advertising solutions company Concurrent is also using the XIP solution to reduce latency for its SaaS (News - Alert) customers located throughout the globe. The company's application transmission speeds have been accelerated up to four times thanks to XIP, and the solution's Acceleration-as-a-Service model was especially appealing to Concurrent.

“As a provider of both content delivery and hosting services, Jolokia serves a customer base seeking to make Software-as-as-Service offerings more efficient, scalable and cost-effective," said Mark Pace, co-founder and chief technology officer of Jolokia Networks. "XIP gives us a competitive edge by enabling a best-in-class performance infrastructure that few companies can match. XIP has dramatically improved our network performance, offering our customers a more reliable experience delivering dynamic content globally.”

“Businesses today have officially entered the next phase of the Internet: ‘acceleration.’ Slow sites and poor web performance can have grave implications for businesses," said Amar Khan, vice president of IP Services at Internap. "Even one second of latency can result in a 7 percent reduction of customer conversion and lost revenue. The adoption of XIP among our Performance IP customers is clear evidence of the prioritization of acceleration. The high-performance network is the competitive edge businesses require in today’s content-driven market.”

Internap's high-performance IT infrastructure services allow customers to improve their service levels, focus on core business processes and lower IT costs. The company partners with Telehouse, a colocation company that offers 41 data centers throughout the world, including a recently launched center in the Chelsea district of New York City. Telehouse also has U.S. facilities on Broadway, Staten Island and in Los Angeles, Calif.
