Telehouse Reflects on Data Center World

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

Last month, for the first time ever, Telehouse joined other companies around the world and attended Data Center World, an event that is touted as one of the 50 fastest growing tradeshows in the United States.

The global event, which was held from March 27-31 in Las Vegas, is referred to as the premier networking and educational event by data center managers and industry professionals. Telehouse, a pioneer in the development of data center services and colocation for the past 20 years, attended the event to improve its brand presence for both local and global Telehouse data centers.

“Telehouse attended Data Center World to promote our broad range of services and our new data center in Chelsea and to gain an insight into industry trends and learn more about global topics,” Fred Cannone, director of sales and marketing for Telehouse, told TMCnet.

With 41 data centers worldwide, Telehouse operates two SAS (News - Alert) 70 Type II data centers and colocation facilities in New York.

When asked what the colocation company’s goals were for Data Center World, Cannone said it was mainly to promote solution selling.

“We specialize in customized services and wanted to explore opportunities for clients seeking these bespoke solutions,” he said. “Also, we wanted to meet with potential partners and vendors to explore opportunity for growth and business development.”

This year, the event, which tends to attract about 1,000 participants, focused mainly on how to best manage the data center. Seminar topics included “Five steps to optimizing your private cloud investment,” “Implementing ITIL 'Lite',” “Yahoo's latest high efficiency data center,” “Managing your time: the key to achieving data center goals,” “Power, monitor and manage critical data center assets,” and “Reducing energy costs in the data center.”

Cannone said the Telehouse team heard that it was smaller, more focused show this year. Those that were in attendance, however, included key “niche players,” he added.

“The show was driven to attract facility managers who are looking to enhance their operations and 'lean' their processes,” he added.

One of the key issues raised was about how the nature of the data center is changing and while there will still be a place for the standard, traditional data center, the world is evolving into the modular approach, according to Cannone. The modular approach is said to become the new industry leader.

Telehouse is at the forefront of this trend as the colocation company already offers a modular data center solution of its own.

Telehouse America, in partnership with Future Tech (News - Alert) Enterprises Inc. provides clients with the opportunity to custom build their data centers. The Module Data Center Solution enables Telehouse clients to build a secure and reliable data center environment within their own real estate footprint or anywhere in the world, according to company officials.

Telehouse provides modular structures aimed to protect IT assets from environmental and human threats through the help of Future Tech’s iFortress Technology.

“The Modular Data Center solution is guaranteed to be fully rated, self contained, air and water tight, energy efficient, reusable and green,” Telehouse officials state on the site. “The modular design is built to comply with building codes and offers a lifetime usage warranty. Further, the cost effective and efficient Modular Data Center solution allows customers to build a fully scalable, customized facility within weeks.”
