Collaboration Software Drives Effective Communications for Fixed Mobile Convergence

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Collaboration among team members is key within any organization to help speed time to market on key products and services to gain a competitive edge. The challenge within many environments is creating the optimal collaboration platform that invites the sharing of ideas and advancing innovations. With collaboration software, however, the organization can provide a single portal for optimal performance whether team members are at their desks or on the road.

Thrupoint offers a wide range of solutions designed to support the focus on collaboration software. The company offers the Fixed Mobile Convergence (News - Alert) Suite that delivers a converged solution specifically for service providers and enterprise customers seeking an optimal and scalable mobility option. Subscribers can leverage this option to make and receive calls over the standard cellular network, as well as through voice over IP with a WiFi (News - Alert) connection.

Thrupoint’s approach to collaboration software is the right mix of corporate voice and messaging applications designed for the business. This solution then places them into a single mobile smartphone under IT control. With this approach to collaboration software, employees can easily be reached through a single business number at any time and any location. Users also have access to a wide range of communications features that easily matches their existing PBX (News - Alert) in terms of capabilities made available over both WiFi and cellular networks.

The collaboration software from Thrupoint in the FMC solution is comprised of two key components: the Thrupoint FMC Client and the Thrupoint FMC Server. On the client side, the collaboration software is installed on the mobile handset and provides the user with access to the same features and functionalities that are available on the user’s desk phone. Additionally, the easy-to-use interface also enables users to easily navigate quickly across mobile phone and communications applications, including presence, contacts, messaging and more.

The Thrupoint FMC Client also supports standard phone features such as call hold, resume, transfer, call conference and mute. The client also incorporates a mobility manager to guarantee continuous and transparent connections on behalf of the user. The mobility manager constantly monitors the viability of the active network link and will collaborate with the Thrupoint FMC Server before making network roam decisions.

To continue to support full collaboration software, Thrupoint also offers the Mobility Server, designed to deliver locally managed mobility services that can be easily integrated with customers’ existing PBXs. Once the server is successfully installed on the enterprise network, smartphones will behave as if they were an IP desk phone, providing the organization with a cost-effective option for adding mobile extensions without a total system overhaul.

For easy administration of the system and to drive complete mobility management, the server will incorporate a management server. This feature will monitor network connections with clients and proactively identify the optimal network connection for each call. Automatic decisions are made on roaming between WiFi and mobile networks to ensure optional quality and reliability.
