Sony's premium "PlayStation Plus" service will be able to back up its PS3 saved-game data online—a feature that could come in handy if your console's hard drive becomes flat lined.
This new offering by Sony will come in a PS3 firmware update (3.60) set for March 10. This new feature will not be accessible through the new online storage locker without a subscription to PlayStation Plus; which is Sony's premium package of $50-a-year PSN service that offers games, early access to game demos and betas, along with other added features.
When it comes to available memory, PlayStation Plus users can expect 150MB of online storage, or up to 1,000 game files, which you'll be able to access from the PlayStation 3's XrossMediaBar. Don’t be alarmed, you'll be able to tap into your online files from another PS3 console besides your own, provided you log in with your PSN ID and password first.
This new online storage feature will surely satisfy many PS3 users who’ve experienced the unfortunate events of a loss in data or just the tragedy of erased game saves from a crapped out hard drive.
Recently, TMC (News - Alert) reported how Sony accidentally retweeted the PS3 jailbreak code. The way this all developed was from a 24-year-old techie by the name of Travis la Marr (aka @exiva). He sent a message to the Sony-operated Twitter account @TheKevinButler containing the root code to the PS3, which unlocks the device, along with the challenge, “Come at me, @TheKevinButler.”
What seemed fatuous at first quickly became genius trickery on the part of Marr. Marr’s plan, as someone from Sony’s official account re-tweeted the remarks. Unfortunately for Sony, this blunder allowed over 70,000 of its followers the access to effectively unlock their PS3 gaming consoles.
