Cirtas’ November 2010 webinar, entitled “Primary Storage That Doesn’t Need Backup,” was so successful that the cloud storage company asked itself, “Why not offer the event again?”
Rolling on the success of the November webinar, and then a reprisal event a few weeks ago on Feb. 11, Cirtas, a leader in cloud storage solutions, has decided to team up once again with Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) to present the live webinar event this Monday, Feb. 28. There is still time to reserve a spot at the free webinar.
The one-hour event, which will offer insights from Amazon Web Services Evangelist Jeff Barr and Cirtas Vice President of Marketing and Product Management Josh Goldstein, will discuss how traditional backups protect data, the complexity involved in implementing them and how they can be eliminated altogether leveraging Amazon’s S3 cloud storage service in conjunction with the Cirtas Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller.
“Continuous Data Protection (CDP) solutions were a logical step forward from traditional backup methods, but the problem with any backup technology is that you’re still backing up,” Goldstein told TMCnet this week. “You may have made it faster or cost less, but fundamentally you still have to do it and nobody likes that. Cloud storage technology when accessed through a Cloud Storage Controller delivers something truly ground-breaking – data that is inherently protected in a near-CDP arrangement. You don’t buy anything extra or do anything special, it’s just there. This fundamentally changes the cost structure of storing and protecting data in a way on-site storage technologies cannot match.”
Cirtas systems was founded by serial entrepreneurs with a simple vision — make cloud storage work like on-site storage arrays, according to the company. While cloud storage provides an attractive alternative to on-site storage arrays, because it is limitless and inexpensive, it is not yet viewed by most IT managers as the optimal choice. Concerns still exist about privacy, performance and application compatibility.
The upcoming webinar will discuss savings associated with the cloud, provided by products like Cirtas’ Bluejet Cloud Storage Controllers, which works just like on-site storage arrays while keeping the operational and cost benefits of cloud storage intact.
“Storage and associated data protection technologies have been fundamentally the same for many years,” Goldstein said in a statement. “But today it is possible to radically simplify and cost reduce storage by leveraging the power of the cloud, while maintaining equivalent levels of protection offered by primary storage with real-time off-site backups. It’s a timely topic that is resonating with storage administrators and we are pleased to again partner with Amazon to demonstrate how enterprise organizations can leverage the cloud to eliminate the need for separate backups and simplify storage management.”
Earlier this year, Cirtas linked its Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller with Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) to support reduced redundancy storage (RRS).
Amazon RRS is said to be more affordable for backing up data to the cloud as compared to the standard redundancy option, which is optimized for primary storage. Enterprises using Cirtas Bluejet can now quickly and securely implement Amazon S3 for storing primary copies of Tier 2 and Tier 3 data and simultaneously leveraging Amazon RRS as an off-site repository for backups of primary data remaining on local storage arrays, said Cirtas.
