When it comes to cloud computing, there has been no shortage of promises made by vendors in terms of cost savings, productivity and flexibility – to name just a few of the potential benefits. But is a cloud-based business really all that it’s cracked up to be?
A new report from Oracle (News - Alert), titled, “Cloud for Business Managers: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” revealed that more than half (54 percent) of businesses included in the global survey admitted that their companies have experienced downtimes over the last six months due to cloud application integration problems.
The research, which set out to investigate the ways in which line-of-business managers in large companies across the world are using cloud apps in their departments, is based on 1,355 responses from companies with revenues of $65 million or more in the following markets: Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Nordics, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the U.K., and the U.S.
While cloud adoption rates are high – 71 percent of companies have adopted cloud applications – security issues are relatively prominent among cloud app users. According to the study, 42 percent of companies have seen a data security breach in their department associated directly with the use of their cloud apps.
Clearly, the cloud has both pros and cons, making it critical to select a trusted cloud provider. For example, Aplicor offers an all-in-one software solution, which has required foresight and significant investments in the application architecture.
In the race to rapidly implement software or develop specific application solutions, many developers and vendors take shortcuts by narrowing the architecture and limiting adaptability, according to Aplicor. According to the company’s website, Aplicor “future proofs” application investments with CloudSuite, which provides tools to add and modify lines of business (LOB), change existing rules and push these changes into existing applications. CloudSuite ensures that as your organization evolves, the application can be adapted to your needs, solving problems and automating processes that you may not even know about today.
As TMCnet’s Jamie Epstein recently reported, the cloud business solutions provider truly comprehends that in order to remain successful, organizations need not to only have continuous access to key tools, but that these solutions must be able to fully adjusted on-the-fly.
