Telekom Indonesia is making strides in becoming a multinational competitor. It is buying up other companies and creating substantial partnerships that have resulted in its expansion throughout Indonesia, and most recently it has established itself as a major player in Australia by purchasing more than half of Contact Centres Australia (CCA).
According to a recent report on the issue at ZDNet, Telekom has bought 75 percent of CCA for AU$11 million (or approximately US$9.6 million). The Indonesian telecommunications company has been operating its own company for about a year, but this move will grant it firm footing within the continent's borders because Telekom will now have the opportunity to take advantage of CCA's sizable workforce and global partnerships. Siam Nugraha, the CEO of Telekom Australia, spoke about the partnership and how his company intends to utilize CCA's resources.
"We intend to work with the CCA team to invest in the company's ability to grow in the Australian and New Zealand market, as well as export the way they do business to our other BPO operations in Indonesia," Nugraha said.
ZDNet points out that Nugraha said the decision to acquire part of CCA was based on its current business practices, infrastructure, and management. Nugraha's statement also appears to point to the lessons that CCA can teach its new partner. If CCA can "export" the way it does business and inform Telekom in that manner, it stands to reason that Telekom is looking to its new big brother as a role model and a company it can emulate.
This is not the only notable partnership Telekom has made this year. Back in January, it also inked a deal with Telstra (News - Alert), another Australian telecom, to help Telstra expand its services throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Their memorandum of understanding solidified a joint venture wherein the two companies would develop network applications and services to help make businesses in South East Asia more agile. ZDNet confirmed that Telstra would not lose any intellectual property as part of Telekom's new deal with CCA.
