While call center jobs are notorious for being ones that are shipped overseas more than any other, the fact of the matter is that most call center jobs are being brought back to the United States. There have been years, if not decades of companies sending jobs overseas to places like Philippines, Mexico and several other countries. Now that customer service is replacing the need for companies to get through as many callers as they possibly can, those jobs are all coming back to the United States.
New call centers that used to be getting started overseas are now also getting started in the US these days. Lowes is one such company that has started opening more and more call centers right here in the states. The company’s first call center outside its home base of North Carolina was set up across the country in New Mexico. Now the company is setting up a new call center in Indiana.
There are expected to be as many as 5 million Americans employed in call centers by the end of 2014. Companies like eBay, and Lowes are some of the more well known employers but they are far from the only ones joining the party. There are also companies like TeleTech (News - Alert) holdings that are less well known but still plenty big employers of call center workers.
There is still outsourcing from time to time. TDC is one company that has had to actually outsource a number of its functions to another company specifically because it couldn’t handle those duties anymore. Still, there are plenty of companies that are getting in-sourced inside the shores of the United States. The best news is that call center jobs are growing all over the United States. Michigan says that more than 1,400 call center jobs will be created in that state this year. Florida is saying more than 1,000 new jobs are going to be created this year. That trend is apparently going to keep increasing in the next few years.
