While the United States is getting a lot of mentions for the number of call centers that are coming back to the states, there are plenty of areas around the rest of the globe that are seeing call center job growth as well. In Market Drayton, a small market town in north Shropshire, England, close to the Welsh border, a call center run by a company called Will Associates is looking to fill as many as 90 new jobs. These hires will be put into what is now an empty building and the company has said it wants to hire locals to head up the new positions.
The company already has a call center in the town but it apparently believes it is suffering from overflow from demand and wants to open this second call center as a way to ease the burden. The company is still going through the process of purchasing the empty building that will house this new center and it wants to have the purchase completed sometime in the next six weeks.
Paul Evans, who is the call center manager, recently talked about the company’s goals to the local paper, the Shropshire Star saying, “We have been growing and need somewhere else to expand now – it is a big move but we’ve run out of space. We’re really excited and think that it will be great news for the town. It will be 90 jobs in total and it will make us the third biggest employer in Market Drayton.”
The company has had nearly 50 employees working at its current call center, but expansion plans have the firm looking to add somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 call center operators. This kind of expansion is good for the company but is also good for the community. The mayor of Market Drayton has already come out in support of the expansion. He called the move to the second call center something that would be a boost to the community.
