As more and more call centers open their doors, there are some that are looking for a specific kind of employee. With the United States having been at war for the better part of the last decade, there tens of thousands of veterans coming home to find an economy that can’t support them finding a good job. Some call centers have taken steps to remedy both their own need for fresh workers with the need of disabled veterans to find a job. One such call center has just completed construction in Indianapolis.
Flagship Logistics Group has built itself a call center just north of downtown Indianapolis that actually exceeds standards set out by the ADA handicap standards. The company has also stated that it wants to add a bushel of military veterans to its payroll. The company said that it doesn’t care whether the veterans that it hires are disabled or not, but it wants to make sure that if they are disabled in some way, they will feel quite at home in the new center.
Much like a center that was recently built in San Diego, the building won’t have any stairs, or ramps or elevators that people in wheelchairs will have to navigate. The halls have also been made so that hospital beds can actually get through with zero problems.
The center managers say that the office will be able to take in 50,000 calls per month. The customer contacts include workload, inbound, outbound, and blended customer service calling.
"Our nation's veterans and active duty military have sacrificed enormously,” Flagship Logistics Group CEO Bob Moran said recently. “Disabled or not, we owe it to them to give them a fresh start. It's unacceptable that we cannot create work environments that enable them to have that opportunity. They have too much to contribute and as we see it at Flagship Food Group -- we want them involved in our businesses, which is why we built this facility. Those we hire into our contact center operations we hope will see this as a stepping stone to grow into other opportunities in other areas of our business."
