Sitting-Time Calculator Assesses Ergonomic Health of Sedentary Workers

Call center agents often risk their health due to poorly designed call center furniture. Ergonomics becomes a key consideration in designing furniture in office environments especially in call centers where employees are stuck to their chair for most part of the day.
Recent reports suggest that an average human being spends more than nine hours a day sitting, whether at work, in the car or at home. This results in increased risk for a wide range of medical conditions.
Ergotron, a manufacturer of digital display mounting, furniture, and mobility products, is helping consumers assess their personal sedentary behavior through an online tool called the Sitting-Time Calculator (Sittingtime.juststand.org). The online tool is designed to help build awareness, promote less sedentary behavior and healthier habits. The tool assesses the comprehensive time an average person sits throughout a typical day and gives tips on how to reduce associated risks.
"It's one thing to read the alarming stats that researchers are presenting and it is quite another to apply it to your personal experience," said Joel Hazzard, president and CEO of Ergotron, in a statement. "At Ergotron, we knew we were all sitting too much and that's why we made the corporate-wide change to sit-stand workstations."
Sitting-Time Calculator also provides customers with access to other tools that help evaluate their wellness efforts. For example, the Ergotron Burn Calories Calculator and Ergonomics Payback Calculator give users concrete information on how to influence behavior change in their own lives as well as their employees.
With this health awareness tool, the company wants to help people make informed decision about the future and suggest ways to improve their health by adopting healthy work habits and improving furniture in call centers and other offices.
Ergotron’s product line includes OmniMount, StyleView, WorkFit and Neo-Flex -- for computer monitors, notebooks, tablets, flat panel displays and TVs. Ergotron's products are designed to achieve less effort and more ergonomic motion for a healthier and more interactive user experience when viewing any digital display.
