ISI Telemanagement Solutions has announced that it has teamed up with Verba Technologies to offer a new solution called Ethical Wall to help industries maintain compliance.
“Ethical Wall is a protective feature that keeps certain parties from interacting with other parties to maintain specific compliance policies or industry regulations,” a statement from ISI (News - Alert) said.
Ethical Wall is designed to keep certain teams separate. For example, a financial institution can keep its brokerage and advisory departments from talking to each other.
The solution works with existing call management and recording solutions to cover phone calls, emails, text messages, screen sharing and instant messages. It supports both Cisco and Microsoft Skype (News - Alert) for Business.
Administrators can configure Ethical Wall to warn users of potentially risky communications or block them outright.
Beside finance, Ethical Wall has a number of applications in other industries. News organizations can keep advertising and editorial separate. Healthcare organizations can comply with laws like HIPAA to keep medical information from falling into the wrong hands. Law firms can keep adverse parties apart.
If a company does face some kind of legal trouble, the evidence gathered by the system might exonerate them by showing they were making an effort to comply.
“Businesses use Ethical Wall in various scenarios, along with communication policies, to enforce legal compliance, avoid conflict of interest, prevent data leakage, and to support workplace procedures,” a company statement said.
As much as businesses like to proclaim that they believe in a free market, even they have to deal with some kind of regulation. Financial institutions have the Dodd-Frank bill and hospitals have HIPAA.
Even when there’s no regulation, there are industries that have their own ethical traditions. Journalists pride themselves on their editorial independence from advertisers.
Fortunately, with solutions like Ethical Wall, businesses can comply with legal and ethical rules easily.
