An estimated 1.5 million people are expected to travel to the city of Philadelphia, the highlight of which will be the visit by the pope the weekend of Sept. 26. Many city dwellers have been loud in their criticisms of extreme security measures, which include a ban on driving into the downtown area during the weekend, leaving many weekday commuters wondering if it makes sense to head to work at all. Of course, thanks to modern technology, people are able to telecommute, but without the right resources, even working remotely is expected to be a challenge. Philadelphia-based Total Technology Resources (TTR) has offered companies a contingency plan to keep things running even during the Papal visit.
According to the Digital Journal, TTR will provide VoIP for just $75, which includes to two VoIP phones, 2,000 minutes of time and direct forwarding of a main office phone number to the VoIP phone.
“Do your employees have the ability to access your network?” asked Justin Colantonio, partner at TTR according to the Digital Journal. “Will business calls be automatically directed to your home or cell phone? If the answer is ‘no’, then forget doing business as usual.”
VoIP systems have made it possible for businesses to use the same phone number, regardless of location. This way, if they make a business call at home, at a coffee shop or on the beach, the number will be consistent. VoIP also allows for calls to be forwarded to other devices, like a mobile phone, so important calls won’t be missed. This type of feature is crucial, as it conveys efficiency to current and potential customers, something that will be noted during what will be a very week for the businesses of Philadelphia.
“VoIP is portable, so your office phone goes wherever you are,” said Colantonio. “You’ll never miss an important call from your clients, and it provides your company with a contingency plan for whenever you can’t get into the office.”
Professional environments are no longer limited to a specific office space. Businesses can allow their employees to work from home using business phone systems powered by VoIP, whether it’s due to a Papal visit or not. By switching from traditional, stationary office phones to a business phone system, you are creating a portable office, and thanks to TTR, the businesses of Philadelphia won’t miss a beat.
