Hairball Situations Can Win NetSuite Awards

June 07, 2010
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Cloud-based business software provider NetSuite Inc. recently announced the winners of the first annual NetSuite (News - Alert) Hairball Awards.

This awards program is designed to honor businesses that have used cloud computing technology to disentangle their organizations from a complex, disparate 'hairball' of conventional, on-premise business software.

The awards were presented on April 15 at NetSuite's annual partner and developer conference, SuiteCloud 2010, held in San Francisco.

By focusing on clearing their information infrastructure 'hairballs,' global leaders in diverse fields are distancing themselves from competitors. In the move to the cloud, these companies are able to disentangle their organizations from a complex, disparate cluster of conventional, on-premise business software.

For this awards program, 30 companies were nominated in ten categories. Winners achieved their distinction by capitalizing heavily on the potential of the NetSuite solution to replace numerous applications and streamline core aspects of enterprise operations.

And the winners are…

MYCOM for the Most Applications Replaced:
This company eliminated nine applications and more than 250 spreadsheets; globalized and automated processes across the organization; and obtained a central view of projects, resources and cost control.

KANA for the Most Improved Productivity:
This winner eliminated numerous miscellaneous applications inherited from 10 acquired companies; conducted financial close in just one-third the time; and order processes times were reduced by 20 percent.

Fresh Produce Group for Greatest Cost Reduction:
Through the elimination of obsolete DOS financial system and numerous spreadsheets, this company improved net profit margins by 100 percent within 18 months and saved $1 million per year by identifying and eliminating hairball overhead.

Jollibee Foods Corporation for Most Global Solution:
This company was honored for selecting NetSuite OneWorld instead of Siebel/Oracle (News - Alert) hairball. Jollibee also deployed the solution to 40 subsidiaries and managed the entire solution with just two IT professionals.

Campus Living Villages for Best Enterprise Deployment:
Campus Living Villages oversees 171 subsidiaries with nearly 40 ERP instances, multiple ledgers and multiple Charts of Accounts; the NetSuite OneWorld solution replaced MYOB and Sage ACT!; now enjoys a single Chart of Accounts and a single view of the business operations.

TradeCard for Best Software Company Solution:
This company adopted the OneWorld solution to increase productivity and visibility, replacing Oracle, QuickBooks, Salesforce.com (News - Alert), Lotus Notes and Excel; integrated all multi-currency activities of five subsidiaries; and TradeCard improved resource utilization and visibility.

RedBuilt for Best Manufacturing Company Solution:
RedBuilt suffered an expensive hairball of SAP (News - Alert) and PeopleSoft and set out to reduce total cost of ownership with NetSuite by $300,000 per year; transition was accomplished in 86 days.

POSitive Technology for Best Services Company Solution:
This company experienced a tangled hairball of GoldMine, QuickBooks Pro, AutoTask, Microsoft (News - Alert) Project, QuoteWerks and a customer database; enjoyed clear visibility and more integrated processes with NetSuite, while also boosting business performance.

Virtual Inventories for Best Ecommerce Company Solution:
Numerous applications included Monster Commerce, Zen Cart, Volusion, StoneEdge, Pinnacle Cart, QuickBooks, Navision, Magento and Depotnet, resulting in high costs and limited flexibility. NetSuite is now the single-source solution for all the company's enterprise needs.

Ira Wood & Sons for Best Wholesaler/Distributor Solution:
This company was operating a dozen applications, including Monster Commerce, QuickBooks Pro, Worldship, NetStamps, and numerous third-party add-ons and customizations. A switch to NetSuite delivered increased profitability, better customer service, and streamlined processes.
