Booth Albanesi Schroeder Buys First To File's EFR-Patents System

Booth Albanesi Schroeder LLC has announced that it will implement First To File’s Electronic File Room for Patents (EFR-Patents) electronic IP information management system in an effort to augment operating proficiencies and improve client services.

In a statement, Cheryl Roberts, office manager at Booth Albanesi Schroeder said, "We are looking forward to implementing First To File's patents and workflow systems. Our previous IP management approach of maintaining checklists on the server and emailing documents had become problematic and confusing. First To File will bring orderly efficiency to our document management and correspondence, which will allow us to serve our clients even more effectively than before."

According to Peter V. Schroeder, partner at Booth Albanesi Schroeder, firms undertaking patent prosecution face problems like specialized workflow, governmental forms and fees, standard filing pre-requisites, and follow-on formal paperwork and filing. While IP-specific docketing systems are available in the industry, an effectual IP document management system is, however, not available. The organization finalized on First To File’s system as it provides tangible advantages and eliminates the requirement of incorporation with existing systems, he said.

Schroeder added that the organization was interested in decreasing the time spent by employees on routine and monotonous tasks, like downloading USPTO e-Office Actions, running OCR software, filing, preparing IDS forms, and pulling prior art references.

The format of US patent case file folders is reproduced by First To File's Tri-Fold view, making it easier for the attorneys. The system’s real-time workflow display both helps save time communicating file status and decreases internal email. The system also offers a supplementary quality control for all applications.

Kurt Wedel, vice president of operations at First To File said, "Booth Albanesi Schroeder is a great example of a boutique law firm that recognizes the value of an IP-specific document management system like First To File. The EFR-Patents and Workflow Management modules will have a positive impact on the firm's operations, both internally and externally. We look forward to completing their installation rapidly so they can focus on serving their clients, as opposed to managing IT systems."
