While the enterprise telephony market was significantly impacted last year, the situation is much brighter now, according to market research firm Infonetics Researchwhich recently released 3 Voice over IP and unified communications reports.

Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise voice and data at Infonetics Research (News - Alert) noted that although 2009 was hit by recession, the latest quarterly shipment figures and results from a March 2010 survey of North American enterprises about IP PBX (News - Alert) spending, indicates a nice increase with no signs of slowing.

According to Machowinski, 2010 is going to be a better year for vendors and service providers alike, as their IP -PBX survey shows businesses increasingly embracing a hosted services model.

Also, VoIP services taken up by the residential/SOHO market still make up for about three-quarters of total VoIP service revenue, Diane Myers, directing analyst for service provider VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research said.
 

“We expect this trend to continue as more companies turn to hosted services for their voice needs, with business VoIP services making up almost a third of all VoIP service revenue by 2014.”

In addition to this increase, the three reports show that most phone extensions today are delivered via IP-PBXs, and businesses said they expect to increase their phone extensions at a slightly higher-than-normal growth rate over the next 2 years.
