When it comes time to upgrade or replace a business phone system and accompanying services, companies have many factors to consider. They need to choose a solution that fits their current needs, and also that can grow as the business grows. They may need to select a system that can support mobile workers or enhances efficiency in a call center.
One key question that just about every company has to ask about a new or upgraded business phone system is: “Should we go with VoIP?”
According to a new report out today from telecom industry consultancy and research firm ATLANTIC-ACM, more and more the answer to that question is a resounding, “Yes!”
The firm predicts that the total market for business VoIP and IP virtual private network (VPN
) services will grow from $6.4 billion in 2006 6o $15 billion in 2012.
In the report, ATLANTIC-ACM analyst Aaron Blazer pointed to mainstream adoption of VoIP
in the business sector as a cause of the projected growth.
“As concerns over quality and security fade, VoIP represents the next major wave of communications services adoption in the business community,” Blazer said in a statement. “While these concerns do remain as holdovers from VoIP's early days, they are beginning to subside, setting the stage for rapid adoption beginning in the 2007 to 2008 time frame.”
ATLANTIC-ACM’s report, “Business VoIP Revolution 2007-2012: The Opportunity. The Market,” presents an in-depth overview of the enterprise VoIP market, which now overlaps in areas with the business phone system market.
