QuickBooks Online Looking to Developers to Increase Global Presence

By Frank Griffin, Contributing Writer

As part of the Intuit (News - Alert) family, QuickBooks Online is a cloud-based platform that provides financial service tools to small businesses. According to the company, it has more than 1.5 million subscribers globally, and as part of this ecosystem it offers over 1,200 apps, with 400 of them dedicated to QuickBooks in its App Store. In order to increase its number of users, QuickBooks has launched an outreach program to give third-party developers more access to its platform.

This outreach comes as the company announces its new global expansion initiative of its QuickBooks Online platform. By focusing on developer inputs, Intuit looks to increase the number and variety of apps that will be available to its subscribers.

With the company already claiming it has the only cloud accounting solution with a user interface that can enable seamless workflow integration into QuickBooks, developers will undoubtedly find new and innovative ways to make the app more available in the cloud.

“QuickBooks Online is the platform of choice because it is the best cloud accounting solution for small businesses, the biggest marketplace for developers, and the best collaboration tool for accountants. Our developers and partners play a huge role in building this ecosystem–they help us create innovative and useful tools that help small businesses flourish,” said Vinay Pai, vice president and head of Intuit Developer Group.

Intuit is going all out by helping developers with tools they need for full integration and interoperability with applications that are available in the marketplace. The company has added Webhooks functionality into its software to help developers improve app user experiences so they can use push notifications to save time and money. Method, a third party developer, has used Webhooks to synchronize business data with QuickBooks Online, and InvoiceSherpa used it to reduce hosting costs by nearly 70 percent.

The integration of TSheets and Bill.com to combine data and user interface will also simplify the development and ease of use for end users to use payment and accounting tools in the cloud.

Data from a study conducted by Intuit backs its push to increase the company's cloud presence. The survey, which was conducted in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia shows 62 percent of small businesses operate in the cloud, which is up from 37 percent. When it comes to apps, 68 percent said they used apps, an increase of 18 percent.
