"Even though I have 2,992 names in my PDA, I never seem to have the phone number I really need."
That's from the president and CEO of Akamai (News - Alert) Technologies, so if there are problems at that level of technological reach, we're guessing you're having a couple too.
But he found a solution via the Personal Directory application on Parlance Corporation's nameConnector speech-enabled call routing service. A Personal Directory is an application which "has proved popular with customers," according to Parlance officials.
With this application, customer employees can each set up and maintain their own nameConnector call directories that can be accessed anywhere, anytime by speaking their password at the main nameConnector greeting.
Think of it: No more scrolling through endless lists, or hunting for the name. Sales people and other mobile workers will have this high on their Christmas lists.
Personal Directories, Parlance officials say, can "extend the benefits of nameConnector service beyond the local telecomm environment, and allow employees to remain productive and connected. It is particularly well suited to busy executives, sales personnel, and others who need quick access to contacts while outside the office."
Additional benefits include savings, since it connects calls via your company PBX's (News - Alert) "least cost routing" protocol. There's convenience in that you only need to dial one number to connect to any of your contacts, anywhere and anytime, and security - "it acts as a backup system to your contact list, ensuring business continuity despite misplaced phone numbers, mobile devices, or other business roadblocks," company officials say.
Personal Directories can also be used by specific departments or work groups to manage their unique calling lists. "For example," company officials say, "your organization's IT department could build their own emergency or home contact directory, while the procurement department could develop a directory containing preferred vendors and salespeople, providing increased efficiency and productivity for all employees within the department."
