RadiSys to Host ATCA Webinar

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Advanced embedded solutions provider RadiSys (News - Alert) won several new AdvancedTCA (ATCA) business contracts this past year in wireless gateway, network load balance, PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node), converged messaging and military applications.

And while not every operation the Oregon-based outfit undertakes involves ensuring the operational availability of war-fighter systems, its ATCA is often used under these tough circumstances. While the need to ensure availability of such systems has not changed, standards-based platforms that ensure service continuity, drive down costs and reduce schedule risks continues to evolve.

With this in mind, the company has created a webinar designed to address the open specifications playing a key role in the transition of ATCA and those from the Service Availability Forum (SA Forum).

In this session attendees will learn key concepts including and introduction to ATCA and SA Forum specifications, an overview of services key to ensuring continuous availability of your mission-critical application, and a look inside a real-world implementation.

RadiSys has been changing the way managed ATCA platforms are delivered as the emergence of commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware platforms, Carrier Grade Linux and management middleware has had a significant impact on the market.

In a recent white paper from RadiSys, the company called the integration of these technologies a “daunting task” and one which is still in its infancy in terms of being truly addressed.

In this webinar titled, “Open Specifications for Highly Available Mission-Critical Systems”, presenter Eric Gregory, ATCA product manager for RadiSys, will explore the role of ATCA in these all important applications with a special emphasis on software for RadiSys’ products.

Before joining RadiSys Gregory spent 10 years at Nortel (News - Alert) in their wireless business unit holding various roles in product management, marketing and sales where his primary focus was wireless data applications.

In addition, while working on wireless data, Gregory held positions in Paris, London and Latin America where he assisted wireless operators such as Vodafone (News - Alert) and O2 with the deployment of 2.5G and 3G wireless services.  He holds a Master of Science in Telecommunications from the University of Colorado.

Also presenting is Dr. Asif Naseem, president and chief operating officer of Seattle-based GoAhead Software (News - Alert), Inc. He is also the president of the Service Availability Forum.

Naseem has more than 20 years of experience in the computer and communications industry and is a frequent speaker at industry and academia events, and publishes regularly on computer and communication related topics in various magazines and journals. Naseem holds an MS in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Computer Engineering from Michigan State University

The June 6, 2009 event will be moderated by Chris Ciufo, group editorial director at OpenSystems (News - Alert) Media. Ciufo is responsible for OSP's Military and Aerospace group of magazines, which includes PC/104 & Small Form Factors, VMEbus Systems, Military Embedded Systems, and the all-electronic publication DSP-FPGA.com.
