) is a major provider of advanced embedded solutions for the communications networking and commercial systems markets. They deal with OEMs, systems integrators, and solution providers.
RadiSys has become known for its powerful AdvancedTCA (News
) (ATCA) form factor computing platforms used in demanding network applications, particularly their Promentum product line.
Recently, RadiSys added to the Promentum product family with two new offerings for service providers, the Promentum SYS (News
)-6016, for high density applications and the Promentum SYS-6002, for lower-density subscriber areas.
The Promentum SYS-6016 platform is a fully integrated high-capacity 16-slot solution that utilizes the maximum number of billable application slots in an ATCA carrier-grade platform, and delivers high bandwidth 10 gigabit per second switching, packet processing, and media processing capabilities.
The 13U (22.75-inch) high Promentum SYS-6016 platform satisfies the demanding carrier-grade requirements of the telecom industry. It comes standard with the Promentum ATCA-2210 10 Gbps switch and control modules which provide integrated centralized functions such as switching, shelf management, network-timing and system management capabilities. The ATCA-2210 also supports the RadiSys switching software that has been hardened and is now running live in deployed networks.
Also, RadiSys offers various payload blades, including high-performance multi-core compute modules, SATA/SAS (News
) storage solutions, high-density media processing and packet processing modules. With a multitude of pre-integrated payload blades, the Promentum SYS-6016 is an ideal choice for 3G wireless and wireline infrastructure requirements for applications such as Radio Network Controllers (RNC/BSC), Media Gateways, IMS (CSCF, Application and Media servers), and IPTV (News
The smaller, compact Promentum SYS-6002 is a low-profile 2-slot integrated platform that provides a compact cost-effective solution suited for various specialized appliances such as sophisticated security and traffic handling applications.
The 2U (3.5-inch) high RadiSys Promentum SYS-6002 platform eliminates the need for an ATCA switch module, and is replaced by onboard Ethernet switching on purpose-built products such as the Promentum ATCA-7220 dual OCTEON packet processing module, ATCA-9100 Media Resource Module, and Promentum ATCA-1200 Quad AMC carrier module. The new Promentum SYS-6002 includes optional shelf management capabilities that are hosted on the Slot One payload blade, thereby providing additional cost savings and flexibility within the platform.
The Promentum SYS-6002 also supports a 48V DC power feed, with optional AC power in either a rear-pluggable 600W AC power or stand-alone 1U AC power module to support both central office or data center environments. The ultra-low profile of the Promentum SYS-6002 makes it suitable for low-density subscriber area deployments and specialized telecom applications. This platform configuration delivers full size ATCA blade solutions that offer high performance and better pricing than the size and technology space constrained microTCA form factor.
Both the Promentum SYS-6016 and SYS-6002 platforms have been rigorously tested against the guidelines offered by Communications Platform Trade Association (CP-TA) to ensure interoperability across the ATCA ecosystem. (The CP-TA is an association of communications platforms and building block providers dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Special Interest Group (SIG)-governed, open specification-based communications platforms through interoperability testing and certification. With industry collaboration, the CP-TA plans to drive a mainstream market for open industry standards-based communications platforms by certifying interoperable products.)
Moreover, both platforms are pre-validated with many hardware and software components, thus enabling Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) to develop and deploy revenue-generating services quickly and cost-effectively.
The Promentum SYS-6016 is shipping now. Production shipments of the Promentum SYS-6002 are scheduled to begin in January 2009.
