RadiSys LTE SEG Wins ATCA Summit 2010 Best-of-Show Award

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Web Editor

RadiSys has recently been recognized for its innovative ATCA hardware and software platforms for next generation IP-based wireless, wireline and video networks.

RadiSys (News - Alert) was awarded the Best-of-Show Award for Best Unique Customer Application for the LTE SEG; a security gateway targeted for Long Term Evolution “LTE (News - Alert)” deployments at the 2010 AdvancedTCA “ATCA” Summit All-Industry Reception on Wednesday, November 10.

The annual Best-of-Show Awards represent a premier opportunity for industry recognition of innovative technology and how it is being used in the marketplace.

"We are proud to recognize the achievements of RadiSys, awarding it the Best Unique Customer Application for 2010 at the AdvancedTCA Summit in Santa Clara, Calif. RadiSys has certainly designed a much-needed system with its LTE SEG and is on its way to introducing a whole new wave of solutions that will enable the successful design of this much-needed security for the mobile wireless marketplace," said Ernie Bergstrom, president of Crystal Cube Consulting and chairperson of the AdvancedTCA Summit.

RadiSys believes that it is important for LTE networks to incorporate cost-effective carrier grade cellular backhaul solutions to address the security issues associated with the all-IP architecture.

The LTE SEG does just that. It is a purpose-built security gateway that protects the connections between LTE cell sites and the Serving Gateway (News - Alert) over untrusted communication links and provides high performance firewall capability for the Enhanced Packet Core.

"We're honored to be selected by the committee for our achievements in customer response and technical excellence," said Anthony Ambrose, RadiSys vice president and general manager of Communications Networks. "With the introduction of the LTE SEG, we have responded to our TEM customers' request for carrier grade security, and leveraged our experience to deliver a rapid time-to-market solution."

The RadiSys LTE SEG can be deployed as a standalone 2U system, or easily integrated as an ATCA blade into existing TEM network elements. It is the first 3GPP Network Domain Security “NDS (News - Alert)” compliant security gateway that enables high-performance firewall and IPsec tunneling in a single carrier grade platform, providing more than 5x performance improvement over current solutions.

In addition to cellular backhaul, the LTE SEG also enables operators to enhance their mobile networks with secure WiFi (News - Alert) access solutions – including femtocells, I-WLAN and UMA/GAN – that use the public Internet to securely backhaul voice, data and video traffic.
