Improved security, efficiency, the possibility for expansion, and economical use of power are among the top concerns when it comes to the latest in technology trends.
Into this environment comes the S-1600 R3 from UNICOM (News - Alert) Engineering. It is a 1U-rack mount server solution used for high-performance security applications. The highly scalable solution provides users efficiency and more economical use of power.
Now available, the S1600-R3 combines what is offered by the Intel (News - Alert) Xeon E5-2600 or E5-1600 v2 series Sandy Bridge processor (the micro-architecture developed by Intel) with redundant hot swap power (in case of a failure), and up to eight hot-swap hard drives, the company explained in a statement. The S1600-R3 supports as many as eight cores on the Intel Xeon E5-2600 series or as many as six cores on the Intel Xeon E5-1600 v2 series Sandy Bridge processor. It features, as well, enterprise-class SAS (News - Alert) and SSD drives.
The solution has impressive reliability for business critical applications. It also provides integrated RAID for data storage, and features three expansion risers, so it’s prepared to handle potential expansion as needed.
Among the companies that have selected the S1600-R3 so far is Lightspeed Systems. It was chosen for use in Web filtering for school networks, and for the Lightspeed Systems Rocket appliance which provides management for educators and IT staff at schools, as the Rocket appliance S1600-R3 server works with existing school networks.
"It was critical to identify a suitable solution to enable rapid scalability while also ensuring the appliance met the security and efficiency standards that our education clients demand," Dennis Delaney, director of product development at Lightspeed Systems, said in a statement. "The S1600-R3 provides those qualities in spades, ensuring the Lightspeed Systems Rocket appliance will adapt seamlessly to our customers' changing needs."
Added Jeff Hudgins (News - Alert), vice president of marketing at UNICOM Engineering, "Companies like Lightspeed are transitioning to the S1600-R3 platform to take advantage of these advanced capabilities, while enjoying the core competencies they've come to expect from UNICOM Engineering."
UNICOM Engineering provides server-based application platforms and lifecycle support services for original equipment manufacturers and software developers. It offers solution design, system integration, application management and global logistics, as well as support and maintenance. Its products and services are used in communications, security and storage markets.
