Appliance Deployment Expert Assists LightSpeed in Unleashing Network Filtering Appliance

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Massachusetts-based NEI (News - Alert), a company known around the world for its application platforms, deployment solutions and lifecycle support services, today revealed that Lightspeed Systems, Inc. recently wrapped up a project with the company in which the twosome created the new Bottle Rocket (News - Alert) school network filtering appliance.

Using the appliance deployment provider’s next-generation design solutions, the company was able to bring the Bottle Rocket appliance to market in less than 60 days.

“NEI helped us bring the Bottle Rocket to market in a matter of weeks,” Rob Chambers, vice president of product development at Lightspeed Systems, said in a statement. “It was important to Lightspeed that we work with a company that had considerable experience and expertise in appliance development and could address both the hardware and software issues that we knew would arise during this process. We chose a company that we were sure could deliver the results we needed to hit our market window. NEI’s system integration expertise allowed us to aggressively accelerate our go-to-market schedule and launch a reliable platform for our Web Filter software.”

“Their manufacturing resources and support services allowed us to deliver a more effective design, increasing the competitiveness of our product and the value we are able to deliver to our target customers,” he said.

Touted as an extremely scalable network appliance that delivers efficient Web filtering to small- and medium-sized school networks, this impressive innovation meets specific demands from school district systems requiring access to enhanced filtering functionality.

Powered by Lightspeed Systems’ Web Filter, this appliance will adhere to standards mandated by the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). It’s also preloaded on an NEI appliance and available as a plug-and-play solution that can be seamlessly integrated into any existing school networks very quickly.

“This program is another excellent example of how NEI helps our customers leverage our deep integration capabilities to improve appliance performance over diverse legacy networks,” added Jeff Hudgins (News - Alert), vice president of marketing at NEI. “Our Life Cycle Engine for Application Deployment (LEAD) model is perfectly suited to help software developers deliver and support a more powerful, affordable appliance solution to meet their schedules and competitive performance criteria.”

Utilizing NEI’s S-1200R3 platform based on Intel’s (News - Alert) Sandy Bridge microarchitecture, Lightspeed looks to grow its portfolio in the future by adding two new products by the end of the year.
