ManageEngine Application Performance Management Software Enables Automated Provisioning of Virtual Resources

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

ManageEngine announced that automated provisioning of virtual resources is now possible with ManageEngine Applications Manager, a widely deployed server and application performance monitoring software.

This solution is expected to ensure that sufficient server resources are continuously available to support dynamic, virtualized environments, which is a time-consuming and error-prone process if done manually.

According to company officials, the new enhancements to Applications Manager’s virtualization monitoring capabilities will help IT administrators to automate the provisioning of virtual resources. It also automatically makes adjustments when threshold levels are breached.

The Applications Manager will automatically add, start or stop virtual machines in a VMware ESX/ESXi server farm in case the number of active sessions in a server exceeds the specified threshold. This automation capability helps the IT team to enhance operational efficiency by reducing manual intervention besides also optimizing resource utilization by reusing inactive virtual resources.

Also, business-critical applications and services that run on virtualized environments are assured of sufficient resources.

The automatic resource provisioning capability is further enhanced when combined with out-of-the-box support for application servers, Web services, middleware and databases that span physical and virtual infrastructures, explained company sources.

In a release, John Stoffer, executive director of IT, Wall Street Institute, said, “Applications Manager is a highly-effective solution for ensuring the software our organization runs on remains available and performing as needed.”

“Being able to automate much of the performance monitoring, and when necessary, server intervention, is very valuable. Not only does it help ensure our business systems are performing as expected, but it allows me to spend my time on other important efforts,” Stoffer added.

Gibu Mathew, program manager of applications performance management solutions at ManageEngine (News - Alert), pointed out that as physical and virtual entities co-exist in most IT environments, any performance slowdown in an application will significantly affect the performance of related virtual services.

“By automating provisioning of virtual resources based on the performance of underlying physical entities, IT departments can ensure their business-critical services are not affected by failures of the physical components. They can also utilize their virtual resources more effectively and slash operational costs,” Mathew added.

ManageEngine released a new version of ManageEngine last year called the FacilitiesDesk which is an integrated facilities management application. The application features an interface for smartphones designed especially for administrators of large facilities.
