GreenBytes Enhances Desktop Virtualization Storage Optimization Software

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

GreenBytes (News - Alert), a developer of desktop virtualization storage optimization software, has announced the additional of new and enhanced features for its desktop virtualization and storage I/O (vIO) optimization software.

Version 4.1 of the software is designed to provide the integral building blocks necessary for quick entry into the growing VDI market by enabling customers to create customizable packages of high-quality and high-performance desktop virtualization solutions.

GreenBytes’ vIO software enables converged infrastructure hosting of full persistent desktops with as few as three 200GB SSDs. The Fast Copy feature notably allows cloning of full desktop images via NFS in less than 30 seconds.

The solution is VMware SRA (Site Recovery Adapter) certified, enabling deduplication-aware efficiency when creating a disaster recovery plan that leverages Site Recovery Manager in VMware vCenter.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Configure feature is designed to capture tuning refinements made by customers to expedite additional GreenBytes vIO virtual storage appliance setup or IO Offload Engine configurations, and the Operations Console provides greater administrative dashboard visibility.

GreenBytes software is described as highly scalable, able to be sized to fit any desktop virtualization environment, including SMBs and branch offices, mid-market and departmental customers, and large enterprise customers, the company explained.

GreenBytes' I/O and desktop virtualization storage optimization software is available through channel partners offering the vIO virtual storage appliance (VSA) or IO Offload Engine, a software-defined storage appliance.   These software-defined storage solutions are designed to divert OS and swap disk activity away from primary storage to high-speed flash, solving the performance and latency problems and poor user experience that occur during peak usage.

"Deploying tens to hundreds of fully persistent virtual desktops traditionally takes many hours to complete, which wastes valuable administrator time. With GreenBytes' Fast Copy, we have reduced this time down to minutes which has vastly improved deployment times, allowing IT organizations to scale out their environments and exceed their SLAs at the same time," said Jim Zakzeski, vice president, Sales and Marketing at ClearCube.
