IPCopper Deploys New Network Security Appliance

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

IPCopper, a provider of packet capture appliances to be deployed within networks, recently unveiled the latest security appliance for the gigabit 4 TByte networks.

The new appliance –USC4060 – can be utilized at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions available in the market and does not require any special technical skills or routine maintenance.

This packet capture appliance provides the data necessary to analyze, detect and prevent cybercrime;  ensures better security to computer networks; facilitates quick diagnosis of network problems; and collects evidence of insider misuse.

The USC4060 is part of IPCopper's USC-series, which forms the backbone of its panoramic forensics, a network and surveillance model that entails creating multiple, overlapping points of packet capture. With this feature, the solution provides network professionals with multiple vantage points from which to narrow down the affected network segments and conduct analysis.

When deploying this extremely robust appliance, organizations don’t have to use packet capture sparingly and can implement these solutions virtually anywhere. They can realize all the benefits of full packet capture and simultaneously control their costs by scaling installation to commensurate with their needs and budgets.

Further, the appliance requires neither IP nor MAC addresses, making it electronically invisible and reducing the possibility of remote detection to zero. It also supports both SPAN and inline installation.

Weighing in at 5.5lbs and offering 400Mbps and 165,000 packets per second sustained packet capture rate and a peak capture rate of 1Gbps, the USC4060 covers the speed and capacity needs of over 95 percent of businesses.

In other appliance deployment news, according to a recent IDC report, the market for the purpose-built backup appliance (PBBA) market totaled $2.4 billion in revenue during 2011, a 43.4 percent increase over 2010.

A purpose-built backup appliance (PBBA) is a standalone disk-based solution that utilizes software, disk arrays, server engine(s), or nodes that are used for a target application to back up data.
