Teradata (News - Alert), a analytic data solutions company, has just launched the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2690, the latest appliance deployment offering designed to meet the diverse business intelligence needs of customers.
The fifth generation data warehouse appliance is a fully-integrated system that delivers double the performance and triples the data capacity of its predecessor, according to company officials. The new Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance will be generally available in the first quarter of 2012.
The solution offers improved performance and a solid foundation for a range of powerful analytics. With this solution, Teradata hopes to establish its lead in the appliance deployment market.
"The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance is a proven powerhouse providing a faster, easier, and greener analytic engine for a wide variety of demanding business intelligence tasks," said Ed White, general manager, Teradata Appliances, Teradata Corporation, in a statement.
"In less than three years, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance business has experienced brisk growth with hundreds of customers now running their analytics on Teradata appliances,” White added. “The deployment by customers and their confidence in the appliances' capabilities and reliability has pushed Teradata into a market-leading position."
Featuring an integrated analytic platform that can be configured from as few as two terabytes (TB) up to 315TB of uncompressed user data per cabinet, the appliance meets diverse needs of customers. Also, it can scan data at more than 38 gigabytes (GB) per second per cabinet.
The innovative compression technology automatically provides superior performance and significantly increases the amount of data that can be stored. The compression technology operates at the data storage block level to deliver dramatic space savings.
In the upcoming Teradata Database 14, the new appliance will take advantage of Teradata Columnar, which will deliver incremental levels of performance and compression for improving appliance deployment.
Moreover, Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2690 yields greater energy efficiency: up to 60 percent less energy and 50 percent less floor space for the same capability as the previous generation. Each Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance comes with processors, storage disks, and networking components pre-packaged into a base cabinet and delivered ready to run, which enables companies to rapidly deploy and quickly realize business value from their investment.
Company officials say this is the only appliance currently in the industry that can co-exist with the previous generation platform as a single system, and deliver full performance from all elements. This unique co-residence capability provides flexible growth options, while protecting the technology investment, they added
