SAP and Dell Form Partnership to Offer Cloud-Based In-Memory Computing for Appliance Deployment

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

SAP (News - Alert) and Dell have just joined forces in order to expand expansion cloud and in-memory computing offerings that are designed to help organizations transform their businesses, as well as increase the rate of appliance deployment. SAP applications will now be available for deployment via Dell's (News - Alert) VIS Next Generation Datacenter Platform, which will provide additional ways for customers to increase IT responsiveness and business efficiency, according to a press release.

Dell's PowerEdge R910 is now one of the hardware platforms certified by SAP for running SAP In-Memory Computing technology, hence Dell customers can now increase the availability and speed of business information, which will result in faster decision-making.

At the present time, cloud delivery models are becoming the main priority for many corporate IT departments because of the multiple advantages these models offer, including a quicker rate of deployments, cost-effectiveness and overall flexibility. For Dell customers, deployment of SAP applications that utilize Dell's cloud solutions allows transitioning to the cloud to be a much simpler process.

According to a release, Dell is also now an SAP-certified provider of cloud services, as well as an SAP-certified provider of hosting services, which offers high-quality standards for cloud-based deployments of SAP applications. As part of the certification, Dell's cloud delivery offerings have passed rigorous SAP criteria for delivering SAP applications on its platform.

"Cloud computing is not only coming of age, it represents a significant opportunity in enterprise computing," said Vince Kellen, CIO, University of Kentucky. "With our enhanced collaboration with Dell and SAP, here at the University of Kentucky we are planning right now how we can improve the agility and cost-effectiveness of our infrastructure. The initial tests have shown some impressive results. Over the short and long term we expect to take advantage of the scale, openness and flexibility that Dell's cloud solutions will provide."
