By Michael Dinan, TMCnet Editor

A Brookline, Massachusetts-based VoIP products manufacturer today announced that it’s offering an online download that’s designed to bolster the performance and security of a series of flagship gateways.

Officials from Grandstream Networks (News - Alert) – a company that makes IP PBXs, enterprise gateways, and IP voice and video endpoints – say the upgrades also include improved bug fixes.

“Specifically, the new firmware enhancement will allow the 24-port FXS gateway GXW4024 to support 24 simultaneous calls on all ports using any codec – such as G.711, G.726, G.723.1, G.729A/B (News - Alert), iLBC,” company officials say. “This performance boost will allow service providers and enterprise users to deploy confidently the GXW4024 in any busy network and high call traffic situations.”

Grandstream – a private company whose products will be featured at September’s Internet Telephony Conference & Expo in Los Angeles – also has offices in Los Angeles, Dallas and China. Company officials say their products “deliver superb sound and picture quality, rich telephony features, full compliance with industry standards, and broad interoperability with most service providers and third-party SIP-based VoIP products.”

Company officials say that the new firmware enhancement will support secure client certificates when using secure HTTPS provisioning.

“This advanced feature will ensure confidential device configuration and account information to be sent securely over the Internet between a CPE device and the service provider’s provisioning system,” company officials say.

The upgrade also will be appealing to service providers who rely on strong security protection to provision and manage large quantity of deployed CPE devices remotely and securely over the public Internet, company officials say.
