Schneider Electric's Catalyze Program Aims to Decarbonize Semiconductors

By Stefania Viscusi July 19, 2023

Schneider Electric (News - Alert), a provider of digital transformation solutions in energy management and automation, launched Catalyze, a partnership program and initiative urging thousands of suppliers to decarbonize and pursue a low-carbon future amidst surging semiconductor demand and carbon footprints.

Catalyze brings together key semiconductor and technology industry players to address supply chain emissions and promote the transition to renewable energy.

The program's mission is to encourage thousands of semiconductor suppliers to take bold climate action through decarbonization, despite the complexities and challenges of the value chain.

Intel and Applied Materials (News - Alert) are the first corporate sponsors of Catalyze and will be actively encouraging semiconductor industry suppliers to participate in the program. Their involvement aims to expedite the value chain's shift toward renewable energy and a low-carbon future.

By fostering collaboration and advocating for greener energy choices, Catalyze aims to pave the way towards a low-carbon future for the semiconductor industry.

This program joins other Schneider Electric supply chain partnership initiatives including the Energize program for the pharmaceutical industry, and Walmart’s Gigaton PPA program. Initially, it will target suppliers in specific semiconductor markets with access to renewable energy, with plans to expand globally based on interest and renewable energy opportunities.

“Switching to renewable energy is an important step to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Intel (News - Alert) has achieved 93 per cent renewable electricity in our global operations and remains committed to reaching 100 percent by 2030,” said Intel's Chief Global Operations Officer Keyvan Esfarjani. “Intel is proud to be a founding member of Catalyze to help remove barriers to choosing greener energy. Ultimately, we want our entire value chain to achieve net-zero as we continue to deliver leading technologies that power our digital world.”
