Any company that stores, processes, or transmits credit card information must comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS). With the recent publication of version 3.0 of PCI-DSS, companies with M2M applications like kiosks, ATMs, and mobile POS systems need to ensure their networks are secure and compliant.

Failure to conform to these standards can result in fines, lawsuits, and even bans from processing credit cards. Even worse, companies that are breached can find themselves in the news headlines, significantly impacting goodwill with customers, partners, and shareholders.
