Intermedia Expands Global Cloud Communications with NEC UCaaS and CCaaS Acquisition

By Stefania Viscusi October 01, 2024

Intermedia Cloud Communications, a provider of AI-powered unified communications, announced it will acquire NEC’s (News - Alert) unified communications as a service (UCaaS) and contact center as a service (CCaaS) business in North America and its European partner relationships.

This latest move strengthens the company’s global presence and leadership in cloud communications and builds on the company's successful partnership- which was established back in 2020, under the NEC UNIVERGE BLUE brand.

"Since we began working with Intermedia (News - Alert) in 2020, they have been an outstanding partner. This transaction will ensure that UNIVERGE BLUE customers continue to receive the high-quality service they expect. Intermedia's commitment to quality and innovation aligns perfectly with our values, which means channel partners and customers are in capable hands," said Chris Jackson, NEC Corporate SVP; President and CEO, NEC America and Europe.

As part of the acquisition, NEC customers and partners will experience a seamless transition, as they already use NEC-branded versions of Intermedia’s solutions. NEC will retain management of its UCaaS and CCaaS business in Japan and Australia in partnership with Intermedia.

Intermedia will assume responsibility for NEC's existing partner contracts, ensuring continuity and enhanced access to Intermedia's technical, sales, marketing, and billing support. The acquisition also expands Intermedia's global reach, offering partners more opportunities, resources, and collaboration benefits.

The integration is expected to be complete in North America by the end of September 2024, with Europe to follow shortly after.

"As NEC's exclusive cloud communications partner, together, we have successfully grown the UNIVERGE BLUE UCaaS and CCaaS business at an accelerated pace around the globe. Intermedia is thrilled to announce this transaction and looks forward to welcoming NEC's UNIVERGE BLUE customers and partners directly to the Intermedia family," said Michael Gold, CEO of Intermedia. "This evolution in our relationship strengthens our position in the cloud communications market and opens significant new opportunities for growth and innovation."
