Interlink Telecom Chooses Ribbon for Future-Proof DCI Solution

By Greg Tavarez December 21, 2023

IDC predicts that the collective sum of the world’s data will reach 175 zettabytes by 2025. The surge of data traffic is largely driven by cloud adoption, mobile broadband, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Therefore, reliable and high-performance data center connectivity becomes paramount worldwide.

Interlink Telecom Public Company Limited, or ITEL, a Thai provider of network services, connects key economic centers and serves a diverse clientele, including enterprises, government agencies and mobile operators, across Thailand.

To accommodate the growing data demands of its customers, ITEL chose Ribbon Communications, a provider of secure and intelligent communications solutions, to implement a Data Center Interconnect, or DCI, solution. This strategic partnership aims to enhance ITEL's network agility, scalability and service delivery capabilities.

Ribbon possesses a rich heritage and deep expertise in optical networking, IP communications and cloud-native solutions. Its portfolio includes innovative offerings like the Apollo optical networking platform, designed to address the challenges of modern DCI deployments.

ITEL will leverage Ribbon's Apollo 9901X access Optical Transport Network, or OTN, switch at the core of its DCI solution. This platform enables efficient mapping of multiple data center services – from cloud storage to video streaming – onto high-speed DCI links using software control. This translates to greater flexibility, agility and scalability for ITEL's network, which allows them to quickly adapt to changing customer needs and market dynamics.

"Ribbon's incredibly fast delivery enabled us to successfully deploy our service on time," said Nuttanai Anuntarumporn, CEO of ITEL. "Ribbon exceeded our expectations and paved the way for new-normal, tight timeframe projects."

The implementation of Ribbon's DCI solution is expected to allow ITEL to offer a wider range of innovative data center services to their customers. This strategic partnership marks a step forward for the two companies to pave the way for further advancements in Thailand's telecommunications landscape.

"We're proud to be working with ITEL and of our ability to deliver fast project execution, from delivery to service activation," said Drazen Lukic, Ribbon's Senior Vice President of Global Product Management and Operations, IP Optical Networks. "We look forward to building on this relationship with ITEL over the coming years."
