DZS and Orange Partner to Pave the Way for Next-Gen Fiber-Enabled Services

By Alex Passett October 20, 2023

DZS.

Orange.

The former, a provider of access networking infrastructure and both optical and cloud-controlled software-defined solutions. DZS’ offerings empower CSPs. Over 400 service providers across more than 70 countries, in fact, rely on DZS systems, platforms and services (which connect to more than 70 million homes and businesses). Fixed, mobile, and converged broadband services that improve consumers’ experiences is the DZS M.O.

The latter, a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service provider in Europe, serves over 13 million residential, business, and campus subscribers. With a supportive multi-vendor strategy, Orange (News - Alert) links with best-in-class partners to meet and exceed evolving customer needs.

And now, as partners, DZS and Orange are expected to deploy new fiber technologies and services throughout Europe, starting in Poland. The first test phase for it is already a wrap.

Let’s break this down:

DZS has successfully completed the first phase of a “live pilot solution deployment” of the DZS’ flagship Velocity fiber access portfolio. What’s more is that it did so within the Orange Polska production network in Poland.

Gilles Bourdon, Vice President of Wireline Networks and Infrastructure at Orange, said that “DZS was given the opportunity to become part of our ecosystem, and we are working closely with them to meet our expectations from today’s 2.5 Gigabit Passive Optical network (GPON), 10G (XGS-PON) and point-to-point technologies; in a context of heterogenous situations coming from the diversity of countries where we operate.”

For those interested in more technical details:

DZS Velocity Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) are environmentally hardened across the entire portfolio. They offer extensive flexibility ranging from 1 rack unit (RU) 2-slot fixed access systems to 16-slot chassis systems. Complemented by system-on-a-card (SoC) technology that’s common for all systems, DZS Velocity and Orange create multiple options to address current and emerging deployment and service demands in their network by leveraging next-gen PON and point-to-point solutions via any service port across the range of DZS systems, including stackable options.

“DZS is extremely proud to grow our strong partnership with Orange, providing them with yet another valuable and strategic set of options as they continue to build their leading-edge FTTH broadband infrastructure, all while also expanding their network automation and orchestration capabilities,” said Gunter Reiss, Chief Customer Officer, AEMEA, DZS.

“As operators across Europe and around the world continue investing in strong FTTH, DZS’ alignment with industry standards will help forward-thinking leaders like Orange achieve the benefits of multi-vendor flexibility while minimizing operational spend and maximizing service quality, new service delivery and user experience.”
