It's not hard to see where meetings have taken a bad rap these days. A line of commercials featuring oblivious manager Bill Lumbergh-who goes so far as to call in his staff on Labor Day for a catch-up meeting-underscore a fairly common opinion about the meeting. But there's still quite a bit of value in getting everyone together and on the same page, and Meeter's new release proves just how powerful a meeting can really be.
One problem with videoconferencing is that, sometimes, it can feel a bit impersonal compared to a physical meeting. Sure, that personal touch still does mean so much, but with travel costs being at current levels, it's easy to see how some might be willing to sacrifice personal touches for big cost savings. Altia Systems is contributing to the conversation with a new camera called the PanaCast camera system that it's getting ready to show at an upcoming Microsoft event in Chicago.
Unified Communications (UC) have grown in leaps and bounds since the advent of the concept years ago, and today's offerings, whether cloud, hybrid-cloud or premises-based must be ready to meet the demands of today's always-on, always plugged-in lifestyle to which professionals have become accustomed.
At the end of last year, and with quite a bit of fanfare at the time, Zug, Switzerland-based Wire, the communications app backed by Skype co-founder Janus Friis, was launched. Well the WebRTC-based desktop app has gone mobile with expansion of its service to the Web in the form of Wire for Web. It is worth the free download so you can kick the tires of this mobile app.
