OpenText's Lewiston Call Center Going Virtual
One of the biggest trends to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 is virtual working. With global shutdowns and social distancing mandates at the time, many businesses were forced to close their doors and connect employees remotely so they could continue operations.
The call center is just one of many industries that has continued moving forward with virtual working, even now as many others return to in-person working.
The benefits of virtual workforces are many. For call centers it reduces costs, boosts efficiency, increases labor pool talent and allows for longer service hours - among a host of other benefits.
As this shift happens, many organizations are announcing the move to full-time work from home set-ups and shutting down physical locations altogether.
The latest company to announce their move to a fully virtual workforce is Waterloo, Canada-based software developer OpenText. The company, formerly Carbonite Inc., will close its Lewiston call center on April 30 and maintain its current staffing of just over 100 employees in their work from home capacity - which they’ve been in since the pandemic shutdowns.
A Sun Journal report confirmed the details from a company email quoting - "Lewiston remains an established and connected employee base for OpenText, and we look forward to investing in the community further. We can confirm we are keeping all our valued employees but closing the Lewiston office physical space as of April 30, 2022."
The call center, which helps clients with online backup services, has been in operation since 2011.
OpenTexthelps companies to move through their complex digital transformations with confidence. The company’s integrated Information Management platform makes it possible for customers to organize, integrate and protect data and content moving in and out of their organization. The company acquired Carbonite in 2019 to bring cyber resilience solutions to the enterprise, managed service provider, business, and consumer markets.
