Deutsche Bank Strikes Payment Deal with Call Center Employees
After a months-long battle between union officials and company executives, Deutsche Bank has agreed to a new pay deal that will offer increased wages for employees working at the DB Direkt call center. The new agreement will primarily affect the 650 employees working for Deutsche Bank’s Berlin and Essen call centers.
As a part of the agreement, call center representatives will now be eligible for a 13th month of pay, an additional one time payment , and wage increases that amount to roughly 2.7% annually. The new deal comes after a 13 week employee strike, due to Deutsche Bank call center employees having the lowest salary throughout the entire company. Call center employees at the company have an hourly wage of 12 euros, or $14.47 USD. Union representatives claim that their strike was effective, causing major disruptions to customer service activity through the course of the protest.
Call center employees and union officials argue that their roles have increased importance due to the pandemic, and felt that wages and benefits did not accurately reflect this fact. Although union representatives accepted the deal, workers initially sought a 6% raise in pay, but settled for two installments of a 1.5% increase. Deutsche Bank has not yet commented on the details of this agreement.
