Following Google's purchase of Jibe last year and subsequent announcements by operators earlier this year, the GSMA's Rich Communication Suite (RCS) has experienced a resurgence across the mobile industry. In addition, Google announced that they will provide an open source version of an RCS client based on the universal profile specification, as well as provide developer APIs to enhance the RCS client experience. So what does this really mean to the mobile operator and for the industry as whole?

RCS Product Director at Xura
Jay Bhatt leads the product management and development for Xura's Digital Communications line of operator solutions. Having been with the company (formerly Comverse) since 2013, Jay has a track record of developing and commercializing innovative products, as a way for operators to gain new revenue streams. As one of Xura's RCS specialists, Jay champions the efforts of the GSMA initiative, working with operators to take advantage of the opportunity and capitalize from it.
Prior to Xura, Jay held a variety of roles during his 13 year tenure at Alcatel Lucent, where he was responsible for the product management of their messaging products. He worked on a range of strategic initiatives, such as location based services, and developing end to end solutions for IMS services.
Jay holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management, and an MSEE.
