Webinar - Getting the Most out of the Coming 5G Revolution with SD-WAN

The first thing most people think about when they hear 5G is mobile devices and networks – because that’s really where we’ve seen the biggest impact of 2G, 3G and 4G networks.  It doesn’t hurt that phone manufacturers like Samsung (News - Alert) are promoting their latest 5G-enabled devices.  Of course, that’s going to remain part of the 5G scenario with its potential to deliver speeds up to 10 Gbps  – but there’s a lot more to the 5G future than just a new selection of very expensive smartphones.

5G is going to extend far beyond the phone and will bring enterprises a whole new level of connectivity solutions, particularly as they continue to move resources and applications into the cloud.  The lower latency and faster speeds will create new opportunities around augmented and virtual reality applications, IoT, connected devices, gaming, and a host of other enterprise applications, and it will have implications for just about every business and industry.  Take a look at the NFL, for instance, which is already leveraging 5G to deliver an all new fan experience some of its stadiums.

As Mike Galvin, former head of research and managing director of British Telecom’s infrastructure (now retired), said during a webinar I recently moderated, “With pre-5G each use case is about handheld, but   5G will change this dynamic and machine-to-machine will be the biggest number of future endpoints.”

But, that increased speed and lower latency means existing technologies have to be capable of complementing 5G use cases.  For instance, enterprise connectivity solutions, like increasingly popular SD-WAN solutions, will have to be adapted to be compatible with 5G standards and applications.  The good news is many of the benefits of SD-WAN, including scalability and adaptability, will help create seamless connectivity with 5G mobile networks.

While 5G isn’t quite here yet, once adoption begins, it’s going to move quickly, and businesses need to be ready so they can enjoy the benefits of 5G, said Sebastian Tellier, channel program director at Martello Technologies (News - Alert).

“By improving network performance, reducing downtime, increasing efficiencies and offering greater visibility and control over network traffic, businesses will be able to run more smoothly, all while thinking ahead to what the future brings,” he explained.

While SD-WAN brings immediate benefits to businesses, Galvin and Tellier also addressed its ability to future-proof enterprise networks for 5G rollouts in the webinar, “Unleash The Power of 5G and Enhance Your SD-WAN Experience.”  If you didn’t have a chance to join us for the live webinar, it’s definitely worth the time to listen to the on-demand version at your convenience.

The immediate and future benefits of SD-WAN  will again be part of the featured discussions at SD-WAN Expo 2021.  This will be the fourth edition of SD-WAN Expo, with the latest edition having recently concluded in Ft. Lauderdale as part of the TechSuperShow.  The 2021 event will take place at the brand new Miami Beach Convention Center, June 22-25, 2021, and will expand on many of the topics enterprise leaders need to know surrounding their connectivity needs, including deployment models, evolving standards, SASE, practitioner case studies, and more.  Martello was a Gold sponsor of SD-WAN Expo and MSP Expo.
