Mobile network operators are under constant pressure to upgrade their networks to address new customer requirements while managing their own costs. Virtualization and voice over LTE (News - Alert) are a couple of the technologies they are implementing now to help them meet these challenges.

But there are many things mobile service providers should consider for best results in virtualizing their networks and introducing VoLTE. That includes employing the best processes and selecting the ideal solutions to ensure end-to-end IP connectivity and roaming, guard against security threat, allow for media and signaling interoperability, enable dynamic scalability and operational simplicity, and more.

A Sept. 15 webinar, “Solving the New ‘V-Squared’ Mobile Carrier Challenge: VoLTE and Virtualization” will address all of the above. This online event, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. Pacific/2 p.m. Eastern time, will include featured speakers Ashish Jain, director of solutions marketing at GENBAND (News - Alert), and Greg Collins, founder of Exact Ventures.

In a recent blog, Sanjay Bhatia, vice president of solutions marketing and strategy at GENBAND wrote that network functions virtualization will play a critical role in the future of our industry. He explained that NFV can help companies in telecommunications more quickly innovate and introduce new services, and be more efficient and cost effective in doing so.

“As service providers fight to maintain their dominance in the communications value chain they have to be more responsive to customer demands – this means being more nimble and having the ability to quickly turn services up or down, optimize traffic on their networks, be innovative in introducing new services or risk losing their customers to more agile competitors,” he wrote. “NFV promises to help service providers bring about all of these benefits and more. But as service providers deploy services using NFV and software-defined networking, they increasingly must be able to elastically scale network functions across a wide range of locations and data centers running different virtualized environments.”
