In the face of the economic slump, a new study from Infonetics Research
showed that worldwide IP PBX (News
) deployments increased between the second and third quarter of this year.
The Infonetics Research (News
) worldwide enterprise telephony market report revealed that the IP PBX
sector experienced a nine percent growth in revenue and seven percent in lines.
In addition, VoIP phone shipments saw year-on-year growth of 25 percent, while IP softphone deliveries more than doubled between the two quarters.
As a whole, the telephony market grew by eight percent over the period, hitting $2.6 billion.
Directing analysts for enterprise
telecoms at Infonetics Research, Matthias Machowinski said that the predicted recession will probably hit telephony sales “because one of the prime drivers of PBX
sales is the creation of new businesses and the expansion of existing businesses, which are hampered during downturns.”
On the bright side, he believes that since IP PBX
was successful this past year thanks to new product launches and IP softphones, the industry “should weather the economic storm fairly well, with continued annual growth expected.”
In November, Infonetics Research said that the outlook for the VoIP provider
market was "decent", given the current worldwide economic climate.
This prediction is further supported by another new study conducted by Omniboss
, which found that more than half (54 percent) of SMBs did not have VoIP solutions
, but 95 percent of those would like to have them.
Last month, a campaign manager for Arizona Senator, John McCain said that the Republican's bid for President made use of VoIP phones
Well-respected Republican political strategist, Gentry Collins
told the Daily Telegraph
that VoIP solutions
“are unquestionably powerful tools.”
